I think that recently self-help
books have become popular here in Latvia as well, because I can see that more
and more of them are being translated in Latvian language.
And I think that is great.
Before I had read them I thought that is a sure way how to spend your money for
nonsense, and become extremely annoying to others. I believed that there is
nothing SO extremely important said that could change anyone’s life. And I was
partly right on the last one. There isn’t anything SO unknown to humans. There
is no secret formula, sentence or magic red button to change your life. All of
these things we have known ourselves for bloody long time. Though in life we
mostly do the opposite of what we think would be the right action. What these books help to do is to notice
these moments when we act in the wrong way when we should do what we already
know is the right thing to do.
For example. When some of
our friends come to us to complain about a fight/argument they have had with
their friends, family, lovers. Most of the cases we know what to suggest. We
say that they should sit down and talk it all over without emotions. We say
that they should put their pride aside and act like grown up people. But have
you done the way you suggest others when you are in a similar situation?
Mostly not. Our anger,
pride, feeling of justice and other emotions don’t allow us to do the very same
things we have suggested to other people.
Because it is ” A LOT DIFFERENT” situation.
There are a lot of these
books, some are good some even a lot better. But one thing is for sure. You
won’t become a better person when you read them. Reading is necessary but without actually
willing to do something and acting it has no power. The moment you start to
act…….well….that is a whole new story.
