Fez(Fes)

The city walls are humangus. (HUGE)
And the size I also presume is the biggest of all (the old town)

Some Things you need to know before entering this city (the old town part)

  • people with weak nerves should not do it
  • inside are no street names
  • the streets are so narrow that you do not have any towers or other building that would help you to orientate in it
  • a lot of the streets are dead ends
  • there are no street names
  • the maps of old town are not very accurate
  • loads of people, donkeys, scooters and cart move at the same time there.
  • a lot more beggars than in other cities
  • a lot of fake guides that will offer you to show everything, and later ask money for it (they will annoy you all the time)
  • you will see everything there ( nice eating places for tourists, bad ones, cheap fruits, how alive chicken is being cut of its head and loads of more)
  • and more stuff.....
The final decision is. Definitely go there, but I really would advise you to take an official local guide. Book it in advance so you get the best one, they are not so expensive and will help you a lot. Because it really is hard for inexperienced people to find anything there, I saw a lot of lost tourists on the narrow streets. We of course went alone, to seek for some adventures. We did not get lost at anytime, but even I had a lot of time this feeling that we are somehow lost, because of the narrow streets, no street names and inaccurate map.

And of course be ready that the people there have a lot less personal space zone, so touching is unavoidable there. By saying all that do not be scared of this city. Just book in advance a city guide and you will have the most pleasant and vivid memories of this great city (more like a maze)

How did we do there? Surprisingly good. We went from not a tourist part of the old town inside, got till one of the kind of main streets, visited the oldest university in worl (Koranic one) (Not allowed to go in), we also went to the place where they color and dry skins (the smell was really not so bad, probably because it was winter time and not so hot), and on the way we checked some of the small shops in the market, and I could bet that some of them looked like that you could find there the flying carpet and the magic lamp at the same time if you looked carefully enough.

After the old town we went straight to the new town through a fantastic garden, that felt like heaven and spa, after the thunder like old town market. The park was big, with loads of plants, a small lake, some fountains and very few people. We finally found a proper supermarket, ate some junk food (for a change), and took a taxi back to our hotel room. Might be the best hotel I have ever been to in my whole life. If you have some interest let me know and I will help you to find it.

Next morning we got up unhealthy early and to the airport we went. This is how the Best trip of this year was made.
